Hi my name is Julie Hyde and I own The Barn Hair Studio And Barbers
I have been a hairdresser for many years and It’s taken me over 30 years to build my business. In all that time I have survived recession’s, illnesses, staff problems and more but nothing matches the effect this pandemic has had.
I don’t think anyone was prepared for this, so I’m grateful to now be coming out the other side in one piece.
I have had good days and bad with the restriction and opening and closing of the barn. But I’m so grateful that no-one close to me has suffered.
But good has also come from it too. The time has given me the space to sit back and review my business, I can’t say how many times I have wished to freeze time just so I could catch up, well I have certainly had that now. I think everyone has a different outlook now, and now understands what is really important to them.
I started The Barn hair studio in just 2 rooms upstairs within my barn. It was with myself, Linda and a trainee Angela.
We had moved from a tiny shop in Regent Street in Stotfold to the barn at my home as I needed to be nearer my young family. It was meant to stay small but as time went by I kept adding people and services.
Today the barn has 14 people working from it and I’m proud to say Linda is still with me. Covid has given me time to rethink and plan more for the future.
Once again I am changing things
- The barn is becoming more sustainable, both in the way we work, and the products we use.
- I have finished the rebrand which was started in the first lockdown, bringing the barbers more into the barn family as it was run under a different name.
- Adding a new website and new online shop.
- Changing some of the services and adding new in.
Within the Barn, we now have the hair studio, barbers, chiropractor and 2 beauty therapist a wedding specialist and hair extension specialist.
The hair studio and barber are open all week and our guest specialist work different days. This makes the barn a very busy place.
On reflection without this time to pause I don’t think I could have refocused and moved forward in my business.
But please let’s hope this the last time.
